About Sawmill River Farm
A Slobody Family Tradition...
SRF nestles in the foothills of central Massachusetts, in the historic and picturesque town of West Brookfield. While retaining the charm of a bygone colonial era, our two 150 acre horse farms employ state-of-the-art facilities alongside traditional breeding and training techniques to ensure the continued excellence of our herd. All our horses are handled daily and provided with top of the line care.
Roger Slobody, Owner: "Horses have always been an important part of our family. My father, Dr. Lawrence B. Slobody, owned top show Morgan horses and was raising Standardbred race horses in the 1950's at his farm in Amherst, Massachusetts. Our introduction to Miniatures came as a result of an ad in the Wall Street Journal. We purchased our first 3 miniatures over the phone, and that was the beginning of our infatuation with Miniature Horses. At present, we have over 60 Miniatures.
My wife Laurie has shown horses for most of her life. An accomplished Amateur exhibitor, Laurie has shown many horses to National and World titles.
Our daughter Kristina trains and conditions the family's show horses in Amateur and Open classes and presents them on the East Coast and at the AMHA World show in Texas.
Our son Wesley showed Miniatures when he was younger and now enjoys helping out "behind the scenes". The farm is a family affair.
Sawmill River Farm features the largest concentration of the precious 34" and under Rowdy blood in the world. Whether you are a beginning owner, fledgling breeder or established breeding and show farm, SRF can meet your needs with our unique brand of personal service.
